Physical Education, Games and Swimming
PE and Games play a very important part in the curriculum at Rosemead and PE is taught by specialist staff. Each child in the nursery has one mini-gym lesson a week, Reception and Year 1 have two PE lessons and Years 2 - 6 have one PE lesson, one Games afternoon and one swimming lesson a week.
The children are also encouraged to join one or more of the many extra-curricular sport clubs which Rosemead offers. At both Thurlow Park Road and Elmcourt, a well-equipped hall and gymnasium is available for a variety of activities. They range from mini-gym and instruction in basic co-ordination and movement at nursery level, to gymnastics and indoor games for all pupils. These activities are designed to develop co-ordination, flexibility, strength and endurance.
Dulwich Sports Club, which has excellent facilities, is the venue for most Games lessons. The winter programme currently includes football, hockey, netball/basketball and rugby. In summer, athletics, cricket and tennis are the main sports. The children travel to and from the club by coach.
Weekly swimming lessons are arranged throughout the year for children from year 2-6 at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre. Each child works towards an Amateur Swimming Association award. The school swimming squad also trains once a week at Dulwich College pool.
Competitive fixtures are arranged regularly against other schools in all major sports at local, regional and national levels.
