Lost Property
21 May 2009 8:24PM

I wonder if you could help me find a navy sports bag, belonging to Lizzie E. (year 2), containing her navy shorts? Both items are labelled with her name and were lost about two weeks ago. I have searched the lost property bags but they were not there.
Please check at home, to see that your son or daughter has not taken Lizzie's bag home by mistake. Many thanks.
Science Week
18 May 2009 8:41PM
Today Rosemead really celebrated science. The children had been invited to come in dressed as 'mad scientists', to mark the beginning of what promises to be a most exciting and valuable week for the children. The children clearly throroughly enjoyed this, and some children were almost unrecognisable in their scientific guises!
As you wandered through school looking into various classrooms, you could see carousels of experiments set up for the children to perform - and children hardly able to contain their delight...
We will be posting pictures during the course of the week, but we have one to start us off. This one was taken this morning at 8.40bc - the time henceforth known as the time 'before cornflour'.

Thank you to all those parents and children who were busy baking and buying cakes over the weekend. Also to the RSA members and house representatives who were out in the blustery conditions this afternoon, selling the super selection, and to Mrs. Sheppard who added up the amounts made by each house at TPR and by Nursery's selling team at EC.
The results are as below:
Elmcourt - £123.60
York - £68.63
Tudor - £39.75
Lancaster - £31.10
Total £263.08
Great work, everyone... Thank you for another very successful sale!

Two Saturdays ago, the U11 Team County Championships were held in High Wycombe. Teams consisted of 20 players plus 4 reserves. We had three boys playing for Kent - Raphael on board 2, Hector on board 8 and Daniel on board 23. Three rounds were played. The third placed team (Barnet) scored 37 points, Kent scored 47 points and Nottingham finished first with 47.5 points. It all came down to the very last game of the tournament!
The boys' achievement was celebrated in our Merit Assembly on Friday, when Daniel brought in his trophy to show (the other two said they would bring in their trophies next week), and the three boys: Daniel, Hector and Raphael, were asked to join our merit bench.
Well done to all three boys on their great work.
RSA News - Cake Sale Reminder
17 May 2009 1:40PM

They say that successful baking is an exact science, and so it is a happy coincidence that our cake sale falls on the first day of science week. Please remember to bring cakes in at both EC and TPR, with those at TPR labelled with your child's house. Pounds mean points, and every housepoint is worth its weight in gold, as we fast approach the end of the academic year.
(Please remember our 'No nut' rule...)
Zena has asked for volunteers to help set up in the playground (from about 3.10) and then to stay on to sell.
If it is wet, at TPR the cake sale will take place in the Hall, as this has direct access from the playground.
Many thanks.

Quiz Night
Last night, the hall at TPR was a haven for fast thinkers and keen minds... The reason for this 'after hours' activity was the RSA Quiz Night.
Our quiz masters set the tone with their introduction, in which they reminded all present that the quiz masters' decisions were final and there should be no appeals from the floor. This was the pattern of the early part of the evening. There were no hecklers. Later on, however, as minds became a little addled and tempers a little fraught, one team forgot itself and audibly questioned the judges. This was met by the following response from the judges:
'An incorrect challenge will lose your team 10 points...'
Silence.
Thought.
'Once a challenge has been made it can not be revoked...'
Further silence.
Thankfully the silence was broken when the judges allowed the challenge to be forgotten and moved on. There were no further challenges.
There was an 'interlude' competition which took place mid way through the evening with the 'Heads and Tails' game. The game is played by guessing whether a tossed coin will land heads or tails up. The final, between Mrs. Duggan and Mr. Lock was tense, with Mr. Lock coming away victorious with a particularly nice looking bottle of champagne. When asked afterwards about his strategy, he said, 'You have to be in it to win it'.... Very true.
Back to the main event, the winners from last year, I Spartacus, were present in an enhanced form but, sadly, their glory day was not to be repeated. Throughout the evening, running scores were given, with the leading team changing almost from round to round. However, in the end, the winners were announced, applauded and awarded a case of wine... I believe it was 'Gone to the dogs', but can't be sure... In the end, it really didn't matter.
A marvellous evening was had by one and all, and many thanks must go to the RSA for organising the evening, specifically, Ms. Jones. Also to Mr. Carroll, Mr. Welsby (back on a secondment from Trinity) and Mr. Sawyer, for taking charge of setting and asking the questions.
Let's do it all again next year!

Wild woods are full of amazing animals
Open air every day makes you feel alive
Only secrets can be told in the secret places that are old
Deep down underground, nuts are always found
Secrets are still hidden in places you won’t know – but always be careful where you go.

This was written at home by Lily, when she was off school, having her tonsils removed. We thought it was such a super acrostic that we had to post it on the PP. We thought it was a wonderful use of time – particularly when Lily was not feeling 100%. Well done!
If there is anyone else who had been off school and has created something they would like to share, please let us know.
