RSA News - Christmas Fair and Tree Sale
18 Dec 2009 3:34PM
Huge thanks and congratulations to the RSA on the great success of last Saturday's Christmas Fair and Tree Sale.
In total, the RSA raised over £2,500 through the event. This is down to the tremendous efforts of everyone involved, particularly, as said previously, Tracy Laughton, for coordinating the event, and Jo Johnston for adding up the money and tallying the totals.
As a school, we are forever grateful for the efforts of the RSA and, of course, to all of you who come along and support each of their wonderful events.

Compulsory Mouthguards For Years 5 and 6
17 Dec 2009 11:41AM
Dear Parents of Year 5 and 6 pupils,
The Spring term is just around the corner and our thoughts are turning to hockey and rugby in the P.E. Department. Everyone in years 5 and 6 will be playing hockey next term, which means each student will need a mouthguard to play hockey at Games, regardless of whether they play hockey at the after school club. If they do not have a mouthguard, they will have to play a modified version in another group.
The ‘boil and bite’ mouthguards are sufficient for this once a week lesson, however, we will be asking the OPRO specialist to visit Rosemead to come and fit mouthguards at the end of the second week of term - if we have enough interest. These are professionally fitted, more comfortable and safer. The ‘boil and bite’ mouthguard can be found at most chemists and sports stores.
An OPRO letter and one very similar to this will be sent out on the 1st day back.
Have a very merry Christmas and a safe, active and fun New Year.
Ms. F. King & Mr. T. Harrison

Mrs. Brown's End Of Term Letter
16 Dec 2009 2:41PM

Dear Parents,
Yet again we have reached the end of a very busy term with our children not only having worked hard in the classroom, but contributing with energy and enthusiasm to a variety of extra activities. Many of you will have had an opportunity to view the Winter Wonderland at Elmcourt and by the time you are reading this, I hope that the majority of you will have been to see one of the end of term productions. I cannot imagine anyone missing the essence Christmas and its very special message of peace and joy, albeit from another angle as Mrs Everitt said at the end of the Key Stage 1 productions, if you attended one of the nativity plays. The term is now about to be brought to a fantastic close with our Key Stage 2 production! Thanks go to all those involved, and there are many, in the formulation and execution of these end of term productions. Mrs Holmes, has of course, been leading the way with Mr Staplehurst and Francesca McClymont adding their talents to the musical front. Thanks to all the children who have contributed with commitment and gusto, to the team of staff who guide from the wings and to you for the marvellous costumes. A real Rosemead team effort!
Many of you attended our Christmas Fair which was an amazing success, thanks to the RSA Committee and all the parents who worked extremely hard, both in the preceding weeks and on the day, to ensure that it was a fun filled extravaganza. There were a number of comments during the Fair about the variety of stalls and general enjoyment of the event. Thank you to all involved in its preparation and to all who attended on the day.
Of course, it has not just been a busy end to the term. The Year 6 have children been preparing for their entrance exams and interviews. This has included a study skills morning and a preparation day, to be run in January, both facilitated by the Year 6 teachers. Some children have just received news of the music exams taken earlier this term and matters on the sport front have been very busy. Our Rugby team won the ISA regional tournament and our Swimming Squad returned from Coventry with four gold, one silver, one bronze medal as well as some new personal bests. Well done to all, pupils, staff and supporting parental team!
Having been awarded our Level 1 Eco Award in June, this was followed this term with receiving our Level 1 Travel Sustainability Award at the Brit Oval in October. Sights are now set on gaining the next level in both of these categories. When our Travel Plan was reviewed this month, it was suggested that we should be used as a test case for other schools to demonstrate that, over time, positive moves can be made to use alternative means of transport to the family car.
The children and staff have also been busy raising money for several charities this term including Children in Need (£73.05), Sport for All Scheme (£2,100) and Age Concern (£68.40) . The Sport for All Scheme raises money for the SPARKS Charity, the smaller British Olympic teams and then 60% of the raised money is given back to us for sport development at Rosemead.
The staff have been very busy on the assessment front with over 70 applications for Year 3 places. This is a record as we usually receive around 40 – 43 applications so we look forward to welcoming a number of new pupils in to that year group in September.
Looking to the future, we have a few staff changes in the new year. Mr Green leaves us to take up his retirement. He joined Rosemead seven and a half years ago, having retired from his teaching post, to see the School through the installation of a new ICT Room, but stayed a little longer than he had at first envisaged! We wish him every happiness as he takes his second step in to retirement and thank him for all he has done over the years in supporting the staff and taking the School on to new aspects of ICT. His keen sense of humour will be sadly missed in the staffroom. Miss Bradshaw is returning to her homeland of Australia to take up teacher training so we wish her every success and happiness in her future career. Mrs Lock, of course, is off on maternity leave. With the baby due in January we will all be poised, waiting for news, and wish her and her husband every happiness with their ‘post Christmas delivery’!
Sadly we also said good bye to some children from both sites. We wish them every happiness in their new school and for some, their new homes.
Mrs Harrison will be joining us after Christmas as an ICT Classroom Assistant and Miss Ozigi will be joining us for individual pupil support. We will also be welcoming five new children to the Nursery.
One final housekeeping point before I bring my letter to a close, those of you whose children attend individual music lessons will not receive a written report at the end of this term. With the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher in the first part of next term, this no longer seems necessary. Any requests for reports concerning music scholarship applications have already been completed and sent to the receiving schools.
It only leaves me now to wish you all a very happy and enjoyable holiday. May you all return feeling refreshed and ready for the new year.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs. C.E. Brown

RSA - Christmas Fair And Tree Sale
13 Dec 2009 2:38PM

Huge thanks to the RSA for the marvellous Christmas Fair and Tree Sale on Saturday. TPR hall, Dining Room, Playground and 'Grotto' were simply spectacularly full of supporters for this wonderful annual event.
Special thanks to Tracy Laughton and her keen team for making the day so enjoyable. Those who attended had the opportunity to snap up some amazing buys: from handmade candles (which will doubtless be adorning many a festive table this holiday) to handmade cards; from mulled wine to 'Tom Thumb Pips'; from the bottle tombola to 'Thomas the Tank Engine'; from 'Dora the Explorer' to gifts from afar; from jewels to baubles; from the children's imagination to Santa's Grotto...
These are just a few of the highlights. If you missed it, you missed a treat...
