Rosemead sent two teams to the first round of the English Primary Schools Chess Championship. This was held at Eltham College on Sunday, 24th January 2010. For some of the children this was their first taste of competitive chess. The Under 9 team consisted of Sean, Zubayr, Joel, Edith, Kate, Kyan and Pablo. They all played extremely well and did not allow themselves to be daunted by older, more experienced players. The Under 11 team comprised Raphael, Hector, Ianto, Raheem, Angharad and Nathanael. In the first round they met the team from Eltham College Junior School, an old rival, and this made for a tough start to the competition. Rosemead came second, never catching up with Eltham, who went on to win, but well ahead of the other teams. This means that Rosemead has qualified for the semi-final in June.
A big "thank you" to all the children and to the parents who supported us!
