Admissions

We have three main admission points: Nursery (children can join when they are 2 years and 6 months old), Reception (age 4+) and Year 3 (age 7+). We occasionally have places in other year groups.

If you are considering Rosemead for your child, the Headmaster and staff extend a warm invitation to visit our school. Group show-rounds take place frequently during term time and you can book yourself into a show-round here.

Admissions Procedure:

Please complete an Application for Admission form by clicking the button below and paying your £50 registration fee online.

Applicants are then invited for assessment. Dates of assessment will be confirmed once your application has been received.

If you would rather pay at the school office by card then please complete a paper Application for Admission. A hard copy can be obtained from the school office. The application form should be completed and returned to: The Admissions Registrar, Rosemead Preparatory School, 70 Thurlow Park Road, London, SE21 8HZ.

For children applying for Nursery or Reception places the assessment will be an informal two-hour play session. For children applying for years 1 to 6 there will be a variety of language and mathematical exercises over a morning session.

PRE-NURSERY – children are eligible to join at the point when they become two years and six months old

Registration process  

Typically, parents will visit the school either during an Open Morning or a Show Round. The next procedure is to fill in an Application for Admission form and submit it to the school with the £50 registration fee. This can be done via the Admissions section of the school website or in person. All children entering Pre-nursery at Rosemead are invited for an informal play session and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this. 

Dates and timing of play session 

Our Pre-nursery informal play sessions take place in the term prior to entry. These play sessions will be arranged on a mutually convenient basis. 

What will happen during the play session? 

Upon arrival, you will be met by the Head of Pre-Prep.  Parents and children are then taken to our Nursery. The children are observed playing and interacting with the other children and adults in our Nursery classroom. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for this informal session. 

Offer date 

Offer letters will be posted within a week of the play session.  

Offer reply date 

The offer reply deadline is within two weeks of the place offer date. 

Waiting list places 

You will be informed if your child is on a waiting list and we will let you know as soon as possible if a place becomes available.  

NURSERY – for children starting in September having had their third birthday on or before 31st August

Registration process  

Typically, parents will visit the school either during an Open Morning or a Show Round. The next procedure is to fill in an Application for Admission form and submit it to the school with the £50 registration fee. This can be done via the Admissions section of the school website or in person. All children entering Nursery class at Rosemead are invited for an informal play session and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this.

This year our 3+ play sessions will take place on several dates during January 2023. Please note that we also, typically, arrange additional dates later on in the Spring and Summer Terms.

RECEPTION – for children starting in September having had their fourth birthday on or before 31st August

Registration process  

Typically, parents will visit the school either during an Open Morning or a Show Round. The next procedure is to fill in an Application for Admission form and submit it to the school with the £50 registration fee. This can be done via the Admissions section of the school website or in person. All children entering Reception at Rosemead are invited for an informal 4+ observational session and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this.  

Dates and timing of session 

This year our 4+ observational sessions will take place on several dates during November 2022 and during January 2023. 

What will happen during the session? 

Upon arrival, you will be met by the Head of Pre-prep.  Parents and children are then taken to our Nursery. The children are observed playing and interacting with the other children and adults in our Nursery classroom, and taking part in age appropriate activities. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for this informal session. 

Number of places available 

There are a number of places available to join our pupils moving up from our own Nursery.

Offer reply date 

The offer reply deadline is within two weeks of the place offer date. 

Waiting list places 

You will be informed if your child is on a waiting list and we will let you know as soon as possible if a place becomes available.  

YEARS 1 AND 2 – we do have occasional vacancies on these year groups

All children entering Years 1 and 2 at Rosemead will need to complete a selection Assessment and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this.

Dates for Assessment are made at mutually convenient times. Assessment sessions can be either just for a morning, or for a full day, where the child will be able to spend some time in the classroom of the year group they are looking to join. 

What do the children need to bring? 

All stationery required will be provided by Rosemead. If your child has any specific medication, please bring this with you on the day. Children will need their coats for outdoor play. 

What will happen during the morning? 

Upon arrival, you will be met by the Head of Pre Prep who will welcome you and parents are then asked to leave the children and return at either the end of the morning session or the end of the school day. 

The children will take part in some English and Mathematics lessons, as well as being heard to read. We will also wish to see them in a social environment so will spend time with the other children in and outside of the classroom. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for the Assessment. 

We also request a reference/report from your child’s current school.

Offer reply date 

The offer reply deadline is within two weeks of the place offer date.

YEAR 3 – for children starting in September having had their seventh birthday on or before 31st August

Registration process  

Typically, parents will visit the school either during an Open Morning or a Show Round. The next procedure is to fill in an Application for Admission form and submit it to the school with the £50 registration fee. This can be done via the Admissions section of the school website or in person. All children wishing to enter Year 3 at Rosemead are invited for our 7+ Observational Assessment and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this.   

Dates and timing of assessment 

This year our 7+ Observational Assessment week is Monday 21st – Thursday 24th November 2022. Your child will be invited to attend one of our morning sessions (9am – 1pm), which includes joining us for lunch. Please advise of any dietary requirements when registering. The deadline date for registering for the 7+ Observational Assessments is Wednesday 16th November 2022.  

What do the children need to bring? 

If your child has any specific medication, please bring this with you on the day. Children will need their coats for outdoor play, we will supply refreshments. 

What will happen during the morning? 

Upon arrival, you will be met by the Admissions Registrar. The Headmaster will welcome the children, parents are then asked to leave the children and return at the end of the morning. A typical session consists of 15 – 18 children. 

The children will take part in informal observation and interaction, as well as some academic assessment. We will invite children to take part in group activities such as art, music, drama, problem solving activities and guided reading. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for these Observational Assessments. 

Some time will be spent speaking with the children during the observational assessment. We aim to keep the time as relaxed as possible for the children and they will be given opportunities to interact with other children and adults. We also request a reference/report from your child’s current school. 

We also offer a small number of Academic Scholarships for children who are achieving highly or have the potential to do so at Rosemead.

We usually have around 20 places available to join pupils moving up from our own Pre-Prep.

Offer letters will be posted/emailed on Friday 2nd December 2022 and the offer reply deadline is Friday 10th February 2023. 

Waiting list places 

You will be informed if your child is on a waiting list and we will let you know as soon as possible if a place becomes available.

The topics covered are the appropriate level for their age. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for the Assessment. 

Some time will be spent speaking with the children before the Assessment begins. Throughout the Assessment the children will be given a number of short breaks in addition to one longer playtime break where they will receive refreshment. We aim to keep the time as relaxed as possible for the children and they will be given time to browse through books and draw.

Offer reply date
