Good afternoon,

The final week before the Christmas holiday is always filled with excitement. Wednesday this year was especially eventful – one of the highlights was a visit from Santa. After checking that everyone had been good, Santa gave out presents and spoke with all the children. The younger ones were in awe! The older ones were particularly intrigued to hear how he managed to visit everyone in such a tight time schedule; all was revealed, complete with some maths problems about the weight of the sleigh! Also on this day – Christmas Jumper Day – we raised £330 for Save the Children; thank you for your generosity.

Other highlights of the week are:

EYFS Puppet Show: Lots of laughter was had on Wednesday during a puppet show performed by entertainers Tony and Derek. The children were also delighted by the magician’s skills.

Years 1-2 Puppet Show: The children enjoyed a Punch and Judy Show, magic tricks and balloon modelling delivered expertly by John Styles. Much enjoyment was had by all.

1Z Visit to Uplands Care Home: On Monday afternoon it was the turn of 1Z to visit Uplands Care Home in St Julian’s Farm Road. They enjoyed travelling on the number 2 bus to get there. They sang Christmas songs to the residents and distributed Christmas cards. Thank you to the parent helpers who accompanied this visit.

Pre-Prep Nativity: ‘It’s Chriiiiiiistmas!’ brought the house down on Thursday morning. The children performed with great confidence and clear enjoyment which was a joy for all to see. Lines were spoken clearly (and there were a lot of them to learn!), and with expression. Songs were sung with gusto. There were a small number of cameo roles for some of the staff, but it was a great team effort led and directed by Mr Soutar. Thank you to all who were able to join us; everyone definitely left in a festive mood.

House Points: Blyton gained 176 house points, Forester gained 140 house points, Shackleton gained 125 house points and Shelton gained 161 house points. Congratulations Blyton.

Cake Sale: The Cracking Christmas Cake Off was a great success. Thank you to all those who baked and contributed to the cake sale. It was a great experience to watch our house captains use their marketing and sales skills. In the end, we raised a GRAND total of £330 for the RSA with Blyton gaining 5 house points, Shelton 3, Shackleton 2 and Forester 1.

House Quiz: On Tuesday we had our first ever house quiz. It was exceptional fun for all involved. Children were split into mixed year groups and answered a range of questions from across the curriculum. It was very close with lots of encouragement throughout. Well done to all involved. Lucky Blyton came out on top again with 5 house points, closely followed by Shackleton, Forester and finally Shelton. Blyton was then awarded a house party where they got to enjoy pizza, a range of goodies and music.

Christmas Carol Service: This afternoon we were welcomed by All Saints Church for our annual Carol Service. It was a beautiful service and heralded the start of the Christmas holiday for the Prep. Thank you to Mrs Holmes and the visiting music teachers who have helped prepare the children for their singing and instrumental playing. I am pleased that so many of you were able to join us.

Lesley Kastoryano
